"In the hard rock genre of popular music, Black women have historically had the toughest road to travel, particularly when it comes to making their voices heard. But with an intensity that would have overpowered the Sirens on Odysseus’s journey, particularly considering the way that she has already ripped through Chicago’s and Milwaukee’s indie music scene with the subtlety of the USS Nimitz in a backyard swimming pool, Esh is arguably THE one to bust that door wide open like a battering ram. Esh has written and toured with several artists as a powerful background vocalist. In 2009, she struck out on her own, forming her own an ace backup band consisting of Terence Lee on bass, Brandon Tigner on drums, and Nick Jaffe on lead guitar, who had also backed other performers such as Common, Estelle, Dwele, Ice Cube, Syleena Johnson, and many others. Esh’s relentless pursuit of her musical passions led to her being a Top 60 finalist on Fox’s “American Idol” in 2010. Eager to get back into the groove with her band, Esh’s debut EP, “You Should Know Me”, was released in the summer of 2012. An all-out hard rock effort, it echos the likes of late 70’s/early 80’s heavy metal/punk/new wave icons such as Patti Smith, the Pretenders, Suzie Quatro, and the Runaways.
And Esh’s rollicking freight train continues to roll through 2013 with a full-length LP currently in the works with a well-known producer, as well as several new tour dates throughout the Midwest.
